Wood, Modern Antiquity

The Grand Tour by Milano Home continues, celebrating the elegance and quality that Italian craftsmanship represents worldwide. Rooted in tradition yet driven by movement, change, and a forward-looking vision, this art — and its artisans — embrace a dynamic future while honoring their origins.

Having completed the first stop focused on glass, we now delve into the second chapter, dedicated to wood. Today, we’ll explore the countless variations of wood craftsmanship across Italy, from Tuscany to Friuli.

In particular, we will spotlight the work of Intrecci Toscani, which bridges rustic and elegant, ancient and modern, youth and tradition through its creations, and Grattoni, a family-run company blending design and tradition with lively, detail-oriented woodworking.

Intrecci Toscani. Artisan Dedication

Intrecci Toscani preserves the ancient art of weaving, crafting handmade design objects that enhance any space. Their products harmonize classic and modern styles, infusing each environment with the energy of natural materials and the beauty of a rustic yet elegant aesthetic, complemented by a contemporary touch.

Great care is devoted not only to the weaving technique but also to passing it on to future generations and individual enthusiasts.

New Generations: How do you ensure innovation and the future of a craft that demands mastery, specialization, and creativity?

I currently teach in my workshop, offering lessons to individuals and collaborating with two associations—one in Milan and one in Rome—where I also conduct group courses.

I do this because I understand that mastering and spreading artisan skills requires time and careful attention. My goal is to teach in institutions and academies to reach young people and pass on this ancient art.

How is a product as unique as yours distributed? Who truly conveys its value to the end customer?

After the extensive effort involved in creating an artisan product, the greatest challenge is communicating its intrinsic value. It requires excellent communication skills to break through the mindset of those accustomed to mass production and product replicability.

What are your target markets in Italy and abroad?

Our primary channels are specialized trade fairs for indoor and outdoor furnishings and industry professionals such as architects, designers, and landscape designers.

What new products are you showcasing at Milano Home?

I’m working on a lighting piece with an unusual shape and a distinctive weave, unlike anything I’ve done before. I’m not sure of the final result yet, but the very act of creating something new fills me with excitement!

Grattoni. No Two Are Alike

Grattoni 1892 is a family-run business crafting unique solid wood furnishings. Each piece is the result of meticulous manual work by skilled artisans combined with exclusive design.

Emphasis is placed on high-quality solid wood to create timeless objects, following the principles of customization and uniqueness, ensuring that every creation is truly one of a kind.

New Generations: How do you ensure innovation and the future of a craft requiring mastery, specialization, and creativity?

Our strength lies in the synergy between tradition and innovation. New generations in the company acquire family-taught artisan skills, blending them with advanced technologies and a constant search for innovative designs.

This approach ensures a solid future rooted in tradition while embracing creativity and keeping the passion for craftsmanship alive.

How is a product as unique as yours distributed? Who conveys its value to the end customer?

Our products are distributed through a diversified network, including direct sales in our showroom, design boutiques, specialized stores, and the Ho.Re.Ca. (hotel, restaurant, café) sector, particularly for high-end restaurants and hotels.

Chefs, restaurateurs, retailers, and agents play a crucial role in narrating and promoting the value of our products, highlighting their history, craftsmanship, and uniqueness—qualities that reflect our passion and attention to detail.

What are your target markets in Italy and abroad?

In Italy, we cater to private clients, artisan workshops, design stores, and the Ho.Re.Ca. sector, collaborating with restaurants and hotels.

Abroad, our primary markets are Europe and North America, where Italian artisan design is increasingly appreciated. We work with selected boutiques and professionals in the hospitality sector who value the excellence of our products.

What new products are you showcasing at Milano Home?

At Milano Home, we will present our kitchen-focused products, along with two new creations for the Ho.Re.Ca. sector.

These include two exclusive carts: one is a lightweight, maneuverable cart with three shelves, ideal for versatile use, while the other is a multifunctional cart featuring a foldable surface that transforms into a spacious cutting board, perfect for the restaurant industry. Both are crafted from walnut wood with refined details, combining functionality and elegance.
