SiSu: the Finnish spirit in textiles

“To say Sisu is to say Finland or, rather, the Finnish spirit,” says Luca Galimberti, owner of Artes, a highly specialised manufacturing company with a history of over 50 years. It is launching the new SiSu brand at Milano Home, and in Italy represents many brands that have quality of raw materials, tradition and innovation in common.

Sisu is part of those Northern European philosophies that encourage us to live life with a different perspective,” Galimberti tells us. At the heart of this philosophy are values such as determination, courage, strength and sacrifice to achieve our goals. But meeting goals isn’t the purpose, rather the journey and the efforts we are willing to make on our travels. We are passionate about the idea of not giving up in the face of an obstacle, of going beyond our comfort zone; we are passionate about nature as a source of inspiration, from which we draw the strength we need to live our lives to the full.

We are passionate about the idea of translating this philosophy, this spirit into our daily lives, into all the decisions we face every day to build our world through positive action day after day. And since our homes are at the centre of our world, SiSu turns its attention to those in particular.” With more than 20 years of activity in the household linen business, Artes is now focusing on this new brand, which expresses the values of Finnish culture and design in its collections: determined, practical, informal, accessible and inspired by Nature.

“As this is our first edition at Milano Home, it will all be new; we’ll present quilt covers printed with Scandinavian patterns, versatile fabrics that can be adapted to various uses and home settings, and terry cloth collections for indoor and outdoor use. Part of the installation will be dedicated to the possibility for customers to customise products with their own brand,” Galimberti concludes.
