Interview with Alexander Bertram, Sales Manager of Microplane at Milano Home 2025
What new products did you present at this edition of Milano Home?
At Milano Home 2025 we presented three new products that combine innovation, design, and functionality. The new grater with container, versatile and practical, features a photo-etched stainless steel blade, made in the USA, and two lids. It is perfect for grating and serving directly at the table, as well as allowing safe and practical food storage in the refrigerator. The 2-in-1 Spice Mill has been renewed with eight new color variants inspired by nature, combining practicality, elegance, and functionality thanks to the photo-etched blade and internal compartment for spice storage. Finally, the pizza cutter with a double-sided circular blade ensures precise and safe cuts thanks to its ergonomic design and plastic protection, equipped with small teeth that allow for perforations, making it an ideal ally for savory pies and doughs.
What are the values and characteristics that distinguish your products?
Our company's values are innovation, quality, and precision. We are constantly committed to offering products that enhance the kitchen experience, combining functional design and superior performance. The characteristics that distinguish our products include the use of cutting-edge technologies, such as the chemical photo-etching of stainless steel, which guarantees sharp and durable blades. Additionally, we are dedicated to creating utensils that are easy to use, safe, and practical, allowing anyone, from professionals to enthusiasts, to achieve impeccable results in the kitchen.
How did your company start, and what are your strengths?
Our company was founded in 1990 when Richard and Jeff Grace invented an innovative blade for woodworking. In 1994, thanks to a chance encounter with a housewife in Ottawa, that same blade transformed into a revolutionary kitchen tool, which soon became a must-have for chefs and food enthusiasts. Today, headquartered in Russellville, USA, with a branch in Hamburg, we are market leaders in specialized trade. Our strength lies in the innovative chemical photo-etching process of stainless steel, which makes our blades incredibly sharp and precise, ideal for perfect grating. Thanks to this technology, we have earned the trust of top chefs and have become a reference point for star chefs, pastry chefs, cookbook authors, and other culinary experts.
What is your relationship with retail stores or e-commerce, how important are they, and what is the added value for retailers to have your brand in their store?
Our relationship with retail is central, as it allows customers to directly experience our products and offers valuable guidance. Retailers carefully select products, helping end consumers navigate the various options. Additionally, retailers provide added value through personalized advice and excellent customer service, which we greatly appreciate. At the same time, e-commerce is important to be present in areas where retail is not available. Our online presence focuses primarily on high-quality brand presentation. On our official website, we have intentionally chosen not to offer a direct store, to focus attention on retail, so that our customers can purchase products there.
